Grand Floridian Disney Vacation 2015

We recently returned from our annual Disney vacation.  This year we stayed at the Grand Floridian.  It is as nice as people say and I still can't get the lobby smell out of my mind.  I wanted to bring that smell home.  We stayed in the main building, club level and the view from our room was pool/garden as shown below.

This was in the room when we arrived.  I think it is in the details and service where they separate themselves from the other Disney resorts.

As part of the club service, we had access to breakfast, snacks and desserts at various times of the day.  These were all located on the 4th floor.  They also had a couple of mini- fridges full of canned drinks you could access 24/7.  During the morning, they had coffee/cappuccino/latte available as well as a variety of juice.

As I said above, I think it is all in the details with the Grand Floridian.  They even had a ceiling fan in the room which we loved.  All the comforts of home.

The pool and hot tub were open 24/7 which we have never encountered before at Disney.  We went swimming at 2:00 AM one night.  We also enjoyed the private balcony overlooking the pool.

Gasparillas Grill is where we ate at least once every day due to convenience.  It was on site and open 24/7.  We also ate at the Sci-Fi Theater at Hollywood Studios.  I recommend everyone try that at least once.

I visited Senses Spa one morning and loved my 50 minute massage.  Before my massage, I placed an ice cold cucumber drenched wash cloth over my eyes and relaxed on the heated tile lounger.  It was so refreshing.

We visited all of the parks while we were there except Animal Kingdom because it is our least favorite.  We went to the Halloween party and trick or treated at Magic Kingdom.  The kids dressed up as Captain America and a space commander.  I went as a Hawaiian tacky tourist and my husband went as himself.

Epcot was hosting the annual Food and Wine festival and I tried Sake for the first time.  They had a variety of flavors to choose from and I went with the lemonade.  It was okay.

I did try a couple different cupcakes that were delicious.  The candy apple one on the right was my favorite.

A lot more people were at every park than what we have experienced in the past.  The Halloween party was sold out on the night we went and we waited up to 1 hour for the mono-rail each night to take us back to the resort.  I think more people have caught on that October is a good time to visit.  We still had fun and will be back in the future.

Powder Room Remodel

We had used the same decor for our powder room for 10+ years so it was time for an update.  I love the new grey/blue paint with white trim so I went that direction.  Most of the items I purchased are from Ballard Designs and Pottery Barn.  The Mosaic tile square I found at Pier One.  I think it turned out great especially compared to the dull decor I had previously.  See below for After and Before pictures of the room.

Dr. Who Birthday Party

It has been almost a year since we celebrated this birthday party which reminded me to share the pictures with you.  I had to piece together several things for the party because I couldn't find any one place where you could buy Dr. Who birthday supplies.  I have some pictures below to show what we came up with.  I do think it turned out cute and my son who turned 9 loved it.

A close up of the Tardis cake made by someone local to me.

I bought a shower curtain to use as a back drop for pictures.  It was not expensive and can be used later if he wants to change his bathroom theme to this.  I also found some glasses (shown below) that when ice is added to them the Tardis appears.  I gave those away as gifts to the kids after the party.  We also played the Dr. Who theme song throughout the party and had episodes of the show playing on the game room TV for everyone to enjoy.

We had an assortment of candy available to the kiddos.  I tried to keep everything blue/white.  Those are white M&Ms and gum balls.  There was a selection of blue rock candy along with blue/white swirled lollipops, mints, airheads and cotton candy.  I couldn't find a vinyl or paper tablecloth in the Dr. Who theme so I ordered this blanket that is now being used by the hubby.  It's his favorite.

We also gave away the little Cybermen as party gifts which were adorable.

I ordered this sticker that peels right off after use to transform our door.  Everyone loved it.

It's bigger on the inside!

It was a sweet 9th birthday celebrated with friends and family.  Jake had a great time and is looking forward to his next birthday party coming soon.

Shangri La, Honolulu, Hawaii

Our plane was set to leave late on our last day in Hawaii so after we checked out at Aulani we toured Shangri La.  This tour is managed by the Honolulu Museum of Art which we also toured.  We all enjoyed the visit, even my kids.  I have several pictures all outside.  No pictures are allowed inside.  It is gorgeous.  A tour guide is assigned to a small group and they hand out fans that you get to use and keep as souvenirs.  They show you a film about Doris Duke and how they built the house on the van ride over from the museum.  It is something you should visit if you have time on Oahu.  Enjoy the pictures.
